The victim, Suresh, reportedly feared for his life, and had changed his residence due to the threat, sources said.

Suresh had just dropped his son and daughter at the private school where they are studying, and was returning on his two-wheeler when the gang attacked him. They hit his bike with the autorickshaw in which they were travelling. “Once Suresh fell on the ground, the gang members hacked him to death in full public view. They then escaped in the same autorickshaw, after making sure that he was dead,” police said.

Investigators suspect business rivalry behind the daring murder.

“It seems the gang has been keeping a watch on the victim and his daily routine before executing the murder on Thursday. They were waiting for him to drop his son and daughter at the school. As soon as Suresh dropped his children and started his journey back home, the gang intercepted him,” said police.

Suresh had already faced some trouble in the past and had lodged complaints with the police, said sources in the police. Such was the fear that he had even changed his residence fearing a threat to his life, they added. However, the gang had traced him and finally eliminated him on Thursday.

Police have collected CCTV footage from the neighbourhood and are browsing through the clips to identify the suspects. The investigators suspect that the murder could have been executed by hired killers.
