Teen seeks lift on bike, snatches mobile phone after getting down

Police claim that snatchers could be using this as the latest modus operandi to steal your phone as it was what happened to 34-year-old Moses of Nesappakam, who was returning home on a two-wheeler from work on Saturday night. Moses felt sympathetic towards a teenager and agreed to drop him on the way only to face the shocker. 

The pillion rider after getting down flicked Moses’s mobile phone near MGR Nagar Market. Police said that Moses, after recovering from the shock, raised an alarm while the suspect started running. 

Two people tried to stop the snatcher, but in vain as the teen dodged them. But Moses chased him on his bike and some passer-by helped him to overpower the snatcher. The locals recovered the phone from the accused and thrashed him before handing him over to the police. Police identified the suspect as 18-year-old Shanthakumar, a resident of Ramapuram. 

“Moses, an employee of a textile shop in Ashok Nagar, was returning home in Nesappakam after work on Saturday night. When he was at the junction near Udhayam theatre to take the left turn, Shanthakumar sought a lift from him. When they reached the MGR Nagar market stop, Shanthakumar asked Moses to drop him there. As soon he stopped the bike, Shanthakumar took Moses’s phone and started running,” police noted. 

Police said Shanthakumar was being questioned to know if he was involved in any similar cases in the past.
