Chennai: 18 arrested in Class VII girl rape case, to be in judicial custody till July 31

A horrific incident came to light on Monday, where a 11-year- old teenager was sexually assaulted by more than 15 men at different times in her apartment's premises located in Chennai over a period of several months.

The latest development is that the Police has arrested 18 men for sexually assaulting 11-year-old girl for several months. All the arrested men will be in judicial custody till 31 July.

The girl, who is studying class VII has hearing disabilities and thus could not defend herself at different circumstances.

The accused men sedated the victim with injections, drug- laced soft drinks and powders that they made her sniff before sexually assaulting her and video tapped the whole incident. As per the reports, the police said that, the men had used these videos to silence the child and blackmailed her further assaults over the period of seven months.

This incident came to light when the girl opened up about this incident to her elder sister, who had come down from Delhi to visit home for vacation. The issue was then informed to her parents who filed a complaint in the Ayanavaram all wome police station.

The suspects detained in the crime were all employees FOCUS, a security firm, and UK facility Services, Chennai.

Police had identified and taken into custody security guards Murugesh, 54, Palani, 40, Abishek, 23, Sugumaran 60, Prakash 58 and Umapathy  42; elevator operators Ravi Kumar, Paramasivam 60, Dheenadayalan, 50, Srinivasan, 45, and Babu, 36; plumbers Jaiganesh, 23, Raja, 32, Surya, 23, Suresh 32; an electrician Jayaraman, 26; a housekeeping employee, Rajasekar, 40; and a gardener, Gunasekar 55.
