She is prominently noted for her role in the TV serial Vamsam on Sun TV.
A maid working at her house in Kamakoti Nagar found the 32-year-old actress hanging from a ceiling fan on Wednesday morning. As the milk sachet was found lying at the entrance of the door, the maid grew suspicious, entered Priyanka’s room and found her hanging from the ceiling. She immediately alerted the Valasaravakkam police and the body was recovered and sent to Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Sources said that no suicide note was found in her house. After the preliminary inquiry, police said Priyanka married a basketball coach, Arun bala, three years ago, and the couple did not have kids. This has triggered frequent quarrels between them and they unofficially separated six months ago.
While Arun Bala returned to his hometown in Pudukottai, Priyanka stayed back in the city to continue acting in serials.
Police said that the couple applied for divorce recently. The actress’ husband and kin have been informed of her death.
Priyanka’s death follows a list of television actors who have ended their life. In November 2016, another popular TV actress-anchor Sabarna committed suicide by hanging.
In the same year, another actor Sai Prashanth, too, committed suicide by consuming poison due to differences in the family.
After the incident, some television actors expressed concern over the increase in suicide rate of TV artistes due to mental agony and opined that it was high time the Small Screen Artistes Association organised a workshop or counselling session for its members.
