Speaking at the 55th convocation of Indian Institute of Technology-Madras (IIT-M), he said “Leading AI technologies have the potential to transform several areas, including manufacturing, agriculture, education and health in the country.”
“Globally, AI is likely to disrupt the nature of jobs and economic arrangements in the future, and we want India to be a leader in this,” Kumar said adding that NITI Aayog had recently come up with a discussion paper on the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in the country.
“Smart mobility is another revolution which could help us develop an ecosystem of shared, connected, and zero emission mobility,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, he also urged IIT-M to initiate its own perception survey on the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ across the Indian States.
“Given the institute’s credibility and reputation, this survey will have a major impact,” he added.
Stating that it has now been recognised that innovation and entrepreneurship are essential to the development process, Kumar said, “The focus has to perhaps shift to Stand Up India as several start-ups flounder soon after take-off.” A total of 2,267 degrees were awarded to the graduating batch of students this year.
