To make matters worse, a Chromepet GH medical team failed to take out the bullet from his toe when Rajendran, 40, went for treatment around 11.30 am. Later, his family members had to squeeze out the bullet even as he continued to writhe in pain.
The police said that they were conducting an inquiry into the incident and were not sure how he suffered the particular injury. Police also noted that the bullet was sent to the forensic lab to ascertain from what type of gun it was triggered.
When DTNext contacted RPF officials, they claimed to have been using only short- range weapons and it was almost impossible that a bullet hit someone sitting at home nearly three km away. The RPF was using the Army’s shooting range for two days on Monday and Tuesday.
Police said that Rajendran who works as street light maintenance staff with Chennai Corporation’s Teynamapet office had not gone to work as he was at the local temple festival on Sunday night. He was sleeping with his feet up on the TV stand when he felt something hit his toe.
His family immediately rushed him to Chromepet GH where they put a bandage on the wound and sent him back. Later in the night, his family members squeezed out the bullet and took him to another doctor.
The incident was later reported to Pallavaram police.
