New Chief Justice to take charge next week

Justice Vijaya Kamlesh Tahilramani, judge of the Bombay High Court is likely to be sworn in as the next Chief Justice of the Madras High Court next week.

A Central government notification on the appointment of Justice Tahilramani said, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Justice V K Tahilramani, judge of the Bombay High Court, to be the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court with effect from the date she assumes charge of her office.”

Meanwhile with a circular from the Supreme Court stating that swearing-in-ceremony of Justice Indira Banerjee, Justice Vineet Saran and Justice Kuttiyil Mathew Joseph as judges of the Supreme Court would be held on August 7 in the Chief Justice’s court, a farewell for Justice Indira Banerjee has been organised at the new auditorium within the Madras High Court campus on August 6.
