The Wall of Kindness, is philanthropic effort that the institute took up a few years ago, has benefitted patients and their attendants. However, there are many who hesitate to come forward to collect the clothes from the wall, which bears a shelf stacked with clothes. “At times, the patient attendants would not even know whom to approach to get access to the hospital clothes,” said a doctor at the hospital.
“Therefore, instead of expecting the patients to come forward and collect the clothes, we are planning to take clothes to them in carts on wheels. The wardrobe will carry clothes that will be segregated according to the age requirements. There will also be clothes for adults – two boxes for women and one for men,” said Dr AT Arasar Seeralar, director of the institute.
Noting that the hospital was getting a large number of donors contributing clothes to the institute, he said, “Those in need of cloths can collect them off the cart on wheels which will be taken to the in-patient ward once a day. The wardrobe will be in the form of a huge cart with multiple buckets, and will serve to benefit all those who come to the hospital,” he added.
The hospital receives between 30 and 60 new admissions a day. “At any given time, there are over 500 patients in the hospital and a minimum of around 800 to 1,000 attendants with these patients. This programme will therefore serve to benefit a large number of people,” opined the doctor.
