The Tasmac officials were planning to open a new outlet at Srivari Nagar.

But the residents, opposed this and few months back, they filed a petition to the Block Development Officer (BDO) and Revenue Department Officer (RDO) saying the shop should not be opened in the residential area which is close to the National Highway.

But, the officials did not take any action and the shop is all set to be opened in few days.

Following that, on Tuesday morning, more than a hundred people gathered on the highway and protested against the shop’s opening.

Based on an information, Maraimalainagar police and Chengalpattu DSP visited the spot and held peace talks with the people.

The protestors however claimed that Tasmac cannot be allowed to open in the residential area which is very close to the National Highway.

Police assured that they will take the issue to the government. The road roko, which lasted for two hours, affected the traffic flow on the highway.
