Gang of 4 hacks youth to death near police station
Even as Independence Day celebrations were under way at Aminjikarai police station on Wednesday morning, a 23-year-old man was stabbed to death by a four-member gang on the other side of the road on Third Avenue. Police have picked up the main suspect, an ambulance driver, though they are continuing investigations to ascertain if the murder was a revenge attack.

The deceased — S Adityan (23) of Tirumangalam — was the staff of a private telecom company. Police said he was the main accused in a murder that took place in Ayanavaram in 2015. Due to this, they are also probing if the murder on Wednesday was a fall out of that.
Around 8.30 am, when Adityan was waiting at the Shanthi Colony bus stop on his two-wheeler, a four-member gang surrounded him. So audacious was the attack that they stabbed Adityan multiple times, though the spot of the incident was right opposite the Aminjikarai police station.
Sources said the personnel there were busy with Independence Day celebrations, and hence they could not rush to the spot immediately. By the time a police team reached the spot, the killers had escaped from there, leaving Adityan in a pool of blood.
The victim was rushed Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital, but the doctors there declared Adityan ‘brought dead’. Though it happened near Aminjikarai station, Shanthi Colony falls under the jurisdiction of Anna Nagar police station.
A case was registered there, and police began probe immediately. Within hours, police nabbed the main suspect Sandeepkumar of NSK Nagar, an ambulance driver of a private hospital on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR). Sources said a hunt has been launched for the other three.
According to police, Adityan along with his friends had assaulted Sandeepkumar earlier when the latter confronted him over the quarrel that Adityan had with his brother Rajkumar.
Sandeepkumar could have planned the murder to take revenge, suspect the police. Police are also inquiring whether Adityan was killed to avenge the murder he committed in 2015.
