Tasmac lorry turns turtle near Kanchi

Thousands of bottles of liquor, which were being transported from a godown for sale at Tasmac retail shop in Sunguvarchatram near Kancheepuram, were destroyed after the lorry transporting the consignment turned turtle near the shop.

The accident on Thursday evening destroyed liquor worth at least Rs 10 lakh, said officials. The mini lorry was carrying the bottles from a Tasmac godown in Orikai in Kancheepuram to the Tasmac shop in Sunguvarchatram. 

On Thursday morning, when the lorry was nearing Vedal on the National Highway, the driver tried to overtake another lorry. But he lost control of the vehicle, which turned upside down. In the impact, the lorry driver and cleaner suffered injuries. 

On information, a team of personnel from Kancheepuram Taluk police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to the hospital. They also cleared the traffic that had piled up on the busy highway by then. A case has been  registered.
