The main accused, C Soundarapandian (36) of Tirumangalam, is yet to be arrested. Soundarapandian, who runs a protein supplement shop in the locality, had placed on online order for Rs 6 lakh and was asked to pay the sum to the Green Cargo Courier Services on Walltax Road.
A staffer from the firm, P Dilip Singh (40) of Park Town, collected the money from him and promised to deliver the goods in two days.
As there was a delay and no proper response from the firm, Soundarapandian lodged a complaint at Tirumangalam police station on August 15. Dilip Singh appeared at the Tirumangalam Assistant Commissioner’s office on the same day, but went missing since then.
Meanwhile, his employer, M Navsath Alaham lodged a complaint at Elephant Gate police station on Monday that Dilip Singh was missing. As he went missing from JJ Nagar police station, the case was forwarded to them. A hunt was launched, and he was rescued from a house in Nerkundram with bleeding injuries, police said.
Investigation revealed that a four-member gang had kidnapped Dilip Singh when he stepped out of Assistant Commissioner’s office, and attacked him demanding Rs 6 lakh.
