Vajpayee’s ashes brought to Chennai

The ashes (Asthi Kalash) of Bharat Ratna and former Prime Minister AB Vajpayee were brought here on Wednesday for simultaneous immersion on August 26 at six locations in Tamil Nadu, including at Rameswaram.

Earlier, the urn containing the ashes were handed over to BJP State unit Presidents at New Delhi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP National President Amit Shah for immersion in rivers across the country.

It was was brought to the city by air for immersion in Tamil Nadu. From the airport, the urn brought by BJP State unit Chief Tamilisai Soundararajan and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan was brought to the BJP office in a procession on Wednesday evening. Tamilisai said the ashes would be kept at the BJP Headquarters ‘Kamalalayam’ in T Nagar till Thursday evening to enable political party leaders and the public to pay their homage after which it would be taken in a procession to various parts of the State for immersion on August 26.
