Though the circular was publicised only now, sources informed DT Next that the City Police have already been collecting fine for such instances for the past one week. “Rules and regulations are the same to pillion riders as well, and they will be fined Rs 100 on the first instance for not wearing helmet,” said an Assistant Commissioner of Traffic Enforcement Wing. In the circular, which was issued after the State government informed the High Court that pillion riders would be mandated to wear helmet just like riders, the DGP has ordered officers concerned to submit a report on number of cases booked for riders and pillion riders not wearing helmet to the chief of Police Control Room.
