Friends pay with fake notes for food, 2 held
Police arrested three persons near Chromepet on Friday for giving counterfeit currency with the face value of Rs 2,000 to a delivery boy after ordering food online. Police seized counterfeit currency of Rs 12,000 from them.

The arrested are Gokul Venkatesh (27), a B Tech graduate, Akshai (25), working at a hotel, and Shiek Umar (27), who runs a mutton stall. Akshai and Shiek Umar had gone to Gokul’s house in Hasthinapuram. Later they ordered food and around 7.30 pm the delivery agent, Veeramani, brought it. The bill amount was Rs 600. Umar gave a Rs 2,000 and collected balance.
When Veeramani went back to settle the money at the hotel, they realised that the currency was a photostat copy. But when Veeramani approached the accused, they denied that the currency was given by them.
The Chitlapakkam police searched the house to find five more Rs 2,000 fake notes. During the inquiry, Umar and Akshai said they found seven fake notes in a bag near Mount Metro Station and had spent Rs 2,000 already. Police arrested them and Gokul was let off after a warning.
