Draft electoral roll: Women voters outnumber men in Chennai

It may be noted that out of the total of 38,01 lakh voters, 901 of them are transgender.

Lalitha, Deputy Commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation (Revenue and Finance), on releasing the draft roll said, “The electoral lists will be on display in the zonal offices and polling booths in Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam and Adyar. People can check the names and addresses on the lists.”

Based on the Election Commission of India (ECI) direction, January 1, 2019 will be the qualifying date and a special summary revision will be carried out for 2019, she added.

Special camps will be held on September 9, 23 and October 7 and 14 to make corrections, if required. Form 6 should be filled and submitted to add names of those turning 18 on or after January 1, 2019 and form 8 and 8 (A) should be filled to correct names and to change addresses.

The forms can be submitted till October 31 this year.

Stating that people, whose names are missing, or who are turning 18 on January 1 (those who were born before January 1, 2001), can fill Form 6 for including their names, Lalitha said, “Form 7, Form 8 and Form 8(A) should be submitted for removing names, making corrections and to change the polling booths within the constituency, in case of a change in the residing address, respectively. The forms should be handed over to the respective zonal officer or election officer from September 1 to October 31.” 

Stating that last time, Chennai district had 3,768 polling booths and two auxiliary polling stations, she added, “Around 3,754 polling booths were set up and based on that the final list was released on Saturday. 

Perambur has highest number of polling stations at 297 and Egmore (reserved) has lowest with 169.” Perambur is the largest constituency in Chennai district with 2.96 lakh voters and Harbour constituency is the smallest with 1.64 lakh voters. Over 16, 953 voters were removed from the electoral roll while 7,160 new voters had been added to the roll.
