Syndicate discusses Anna university scam
Even as an investigation is in progress in connection with the alleged ‘marks-for-money’ scam, the vital syndicate meeting of Anna University was held on Monday with members discuss various aspects of the campus.

The meeting, which was attended by the member panel, discussed in details the recent scam, in which former controller of examination GV Uma was identified as the prime suspect for awarding marks in exchange of money during revaluation in 2017.
Anna University sources said that the syndicate members also suggested a permanent committee should be constituted to monitor all the activities of the institution, including its constituent colleges.
This was the second syndicate meeting for Dr M K Surappa after taking over as vice chancellor of Anna University. Similarly, it was also the first meeting for Mangat Ram Sharma, who took over as principal secretary in the Higher Education Department recently.
During the meeting, the vice chancellor explained the steps taken by the internal investigation committee, comprising senior university staff, to probe the alleged scam.
As there was demand from the students, the members also discussed creation of additional engineering seats in mechanical, EEE and computer science engineering courses in the university’s regional campuses across the state. Creating conducive learning environment in the institutions was also discussed at the meeting, which lasted for more than three hours.
The syndicate, which is the highest body in the university, comprises bureaucrats who are mostly ex-officio members, an elected member from the legislative assembly, professors and persons with academic interests, appointed by the Governor-Chancellor.
