The accused, P Manikandan of Teynampet, has cases of mobile phone snatching and attempted murder booked against him at the Mambalam police station. About three months ago, the T Nagar police had released him from custody after receiving an undertaking from him that he would not commit offences for a period of one year. This was a chance for him to reform.
However, it lasted only about 90 days. Manikandan recently got into a fight with an eatery shop owner and robbed his earnings after eating there. Following a complaint lodged by the shop owner, the police registered a case and arrested Manikandan.
When it was found that he breached the peace bond, T Nagar Deputy Commissioner ordered him to spend the rest of the peace bond period, 276 days, in prison. Manikandan was subsequently lodged in Puzhal Central Prison.
