Auto driver roughed up by BJP cadre for questioning fuel hike
An autorickshaw driver became a social media sensation after being roughed up by BJP workers here for raising questions on the unchecked fuel price hike, during a press briefing by BJP state secretary Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Though the Chennai police and State BJP unit sought to ignore the incident and there were no complaints from either side, visuals aired by TV channels on Monday turned viral on social media inviting reactions from across the country.
In the video, the khaki-clad auto driver, who was behind Tamilisai, was elbowed twice, shoved and beaten by a BJP functionary. Eyewitnesses told TV channels that the BJP workers abused the driver for disrupting the press briefing and rained blows on him.
“Amma, the Centre is increasing fuel price,” was the remark by the auto driver identified as Kathir. However, the video shows the BJP chief in a cool and composed manner, ignoring the driver hailing from south Chennai. However, the BJP workers lost their cool and attacked the driver.
The auto driver told the media that he only expressed his anguish about how they are affected by the steep fuel price hike, but never expected an assault by the BJP supporters.
This is the second such incident in recent times in which a stranger has taken on Tamilisai. Sofia, a PG student, was arrested a fortnight ago for raising anti-BJP slogans on a flight in the presence of Tamilisai.
