The wet spell in the last couple of days has brought much relief to the Chennaiites, who were reeling under severe heat since the beginning of this month.

Deputy Director General of Meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre S Balachandran, said, “Showers are expected in most parts of north Tamil Nadu and a few locations in south districts.”

On Sunday, many places across the state experienced significant downpour and Thanjavur district recorded a maximum rainfall of 11 cm.

Owing to the sudden showers, interior roads in many pockets in the city were inundated.

The cyclonic circulation is likely to concentrate into a depression and move towards north Andhra Pradesh- South Odisha coasts in the next 48 hours.

A warning has been issued to fishermen advising them not to venture into the sea for the next two days.

The Tamil Nadu Weatherman in his facebook post noted, “There will be some activity for north TN. Unlike in the past week when widespread downpour was witnessed in the state, rain will occur only in isolated areas. The convergence will shift to the SW sector of the low pressure area and as the low pressure intensifies further, it will wrap the clouds closer to it.”

“Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai can expect isolated heavy spells in the next few days. Other parts of TN need to wait for widespread activity, however isolated rains will happen in some parts. However, there will be no major thunderstorm activity,” he said.

The city recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6 degree Celsius and a minimum temperature of 23.8 degree Celsius on Monday
