Gold, electronic goods seized at Chennai airport
Customs officials at the Chennai airport altogether seized gold worth over Rs 34 lakh and electronic goods worth Rs 5.5 lakh from five passengers as on Sunday.

The Customs officials on Saturday night, while checking passengers, who arrived from Colombo, detained one Rajaratinam (34) from Sri Lanka based on suspicion. On holding checks, seven gold pieces weighing 350 grams were seized.
On Sunday the customs officials while checking another set of passengers from Sri Lanka identified one Nithiyanandam (37), who was hiding 270 grams of gold.
On Sunday at 11.30 am, officials while inspected the passengers from Kuala Lumpur, and seized gold chain weighing 200 grams from one Abdullah (25) from Chennai. An official said that he was a repeat offender.
On Sunday evening, a passenger named Nerendran, who arrived from Singapore was detained for trying to smuggle 100 grams gold worth Rs 3 lakh and three canon DSLR cameras and other electronic goods worth Rs 5.5 lakh. Later on Sunday night, Mohammed (41) of Chennai was found with nine gold bars weighing 170 grams.
