Two shops looted in suburbs
A group of six masked men decamped with three sovereign jewels and mobile phones worth Rs 2 lakh from two shops in suburban Selaiyur in the wee hours of Wednesday.
One of the two shops belonged to pawn broker Ramesh (29), a resident of Agaram South in Selaiyur. While his shop is on the ground floor, he lives in the first floor with his family. Around 4 am on Wednesday, Ramesh heard some noise from his shop. When he went to the balcony to check, he saw three masked men escaping on a two-wheeler. Immediately, he shouted for help and ran to the ground floor where he saw another group of three men escaping from his shop. However, he could not identify them as their faces were covered.
When he checked the shop, Ramesh found that the intruders had stolen three sovereigns and 500 grams of silver from the shop. The same gang also looted the mobile phone sales and service centre that is located nearby, police said. The shop owner Karthik (35) has lodged a complaint in which he stated that the burglars have decamped with mobile phones worth Rs 2 lakh.
Police said the gang also tried to enter another mobile phone showroom in the same building but in vain. Selaiyur police have registered a case. They suspect that one of the local residents could be involved in the crime.
