According to Corporation sources, the bids for Rs 290 crore project was floated on September 1 to monitor the construction of missing links in the stormwater drains. The PMC will oversee the works right from planning, scheduling, initial level survey checking, execution, quality control assurance and completion up to final bill submission.
The PMC firm would also scrutinise, review and approve the project execution details and designs submitted by the road contractors. Earlier, the civic body had fixed September 14 for opening the bids. However, the date was postponed to September 19 and then to September 24 due to “administrative reasons.” Interestingly, the Chennai Corporation had already completed nearly 400km of stormwater drains.
“The potential PMC would identify the missing links in drains in all the 15 zones and submit the report to the civic body,” the official added.
It may be noted that the civic body had already utilised the service of a private firm to oversee the upgrading of roads during Global Investor Meet in 2015.
PMC’S role
- Review project execution plan
- Inspecting workson daily basis
- Issuing completion certificates
- Assisting civic body in estimating costs
- Final bill submission
- Testing quality of SWD
