“It is a government function and those who do not defame the image of MGR are invited. We have invited the three whole heatedly and hope they will participate in the function,” said Minister for Tamil official language and Tamil culture K Pandiarajan on Monday.

The valedication event of MGR centenary celebrations is scheduled to be held here on Sept 30. Initially, the government had planned to invite top leaders like Prime Minister Modi for it. Cabinet ministers including D Jayakumar had also hinted at inviting leaders from all the major parties of the country.

“The names of opposition leaders have been printed on the invitation. A few opposition MLAs have taken part in earlier functions,” said Pandiarajan, recalling the participation of Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan at the recently held MGR centenary event in Kanniyakumari.

“As the final MGR centernary function is scheduled in Chennai, it is the duty of the State government to invite all the MLAs of the district. We hope the RK Nagar legislator attends the event,” said Pandiarajan.
