Hubby held for woman’s murder in Ashok Nagar
A day after a 53-year-old woman was found dead with stab injuries inside her house in Ashok Nagar, police arrested her husband on Thursday. After initially suspecting it to be a murder for the gain, the investigators zeroed in on her 68-year-old husband, a retired auditor, who allegedly murdered her over family dispute over property.

The incident came to light when Kavitha came home from work around 5 pm to find her mother Maheswari lying in a pool of blood under the bed. The couple’s son was present at home, but police said he was intellectually challenged and was unaware of what had happened. Kavitha then informed her father, Annamalai, and also the police.
As Annamalai initially claimed he was in Tambaram at the time of murder, police thought she could have been murdered by burglars. However, when they found no valuables were missing and even her mangalsutra was intact, police grew suspicious and grilled Annamalai, who confessed to have stabbed her before fleeing the spot.
Police said that there was prolonged dispute between the couple, and Maheshwari often quarrelled with Annamalai demanding to transfer the title of the house in her name. The quarrel prolonged after Annamalai retired from his job a few years ago. On Tuesday night, too, the couple had an argument over the property. The next day, when Maheswari raised the matter again when their daughter Kavitha was not at home, Annamalai murdered her following a sudden provocation, said police.
