The arrested person was identified as Premchand Pokkari. His arrest comes after the police nabbed the main accused Abdul Saleem, a lorry driver, in Rajasthan in August.

According to police, Abdul Saleem and his helper Premchand Pokkari murdered their boss and lorry owner Dhawan Singh in Gummidipoondi in 2001. They decided to kill Dhawan Singh reportedly after he refused to give them loans when they reached the city with goods in a lorry. They also looted his valuables.

The Gummidipoondi police arrested the duo in Rajasthan in 2003 and remanded them. However, they came out on bail and went absconding after which an arrest warrant was issued against them. While there was no development in the case since then, Gummidipoondi DSP Ramesh formed a special team that included special sub-inspector Sabapathy, sub-inspectors Senthil and Suresh and a head constable to secure them.

The team visited Rajasthan in August and nabbed Abdul Saleem after hunting for him for 12 days. Recently, they received a tip-off that Premchand Pokkari was in his hometown in Jhalawar district after which a team of police personnel went to Rajasthan last week and nabbed him on Saturday. “They are on their way back by train and will reach the city on Monday. The villagers were cooperative and helped the team to secure Premchand,” said DSP Ramesh.
