Police said that Prasanna of Kodambakkam went to Gerugambakkam to meet his friend and was returning home on his bike late on Sunday night. On the way, a group of men including Ananthraj and his friend Stephan intercepted him and enquired with him as they have not seen him before in the locality.
An argument erupted between them after which Ananthraj and his friends allegedly attacked Prasanna. Infuriated, Prasanna managed to escape from the place but returned with a gang who carried weapons. They surrounded Ananthraj and his friends and attacked them. Others escaped from the attack, but Ananthraj suffered grievous injuries and died on the spot while his friend Stephan sustained injuries and fell unconscious. Following this, the attackers fled the spot.
On Monday morning, passers-by noticed Ananthraj and Stephan lying in a pool of blood and rushed them to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared Ananthraj dead on arrival. Meanwhile, Stephan is said to be critical. On information, Mangadu police registered a case and secured Prasanna, and his friends Dinesh and Viji. Further inquiry is on.
