Two days ago, the district Food Safety department officials caught two men selling gutkha at their shops in Guduvanchery-Nillikuppam road. They seized 50 kg gutkha and sealed both the shops.
Later, during inquiry, they found both of them bought it from Selvam in Saidapet. When the Saidapet police nabbed Selvam and questioned him, they found he was getting gutkha from a godown in Kancheepuram.
Soon, the Adayar Deputy Commissioner formed a special team to investigate the case. On Friday, the special team, along with the Baluchetty Chatiram police, surrounded the godown in Thulukan Thandalam village. When they entered the godown, the officials found several sacks of gutkha. They seized the entire consignment and arrested Mohan. Soon enough, his brother Thirupathi, and eight of their clients were also arrested. Police sources said Selvam was being interrogated further to gather more details.
