Rain hampers flight operations

Heavy rain delayed flight operations at Chennai airport by about two hours on Friday morning, while bad weather at the Andaman Islands forced an Air India flight from Chennai to Port Blair flight to return to the city airport.

The flight had departed from Chennai at 5.30 am on Friday. But within a few minutes, the Airport Traffic Control here got the alert that the flight would not be able to land at the Port Blair airport due to the inclement weather there. 

Soon, the pilot was alerted and the aircraft returned. The flight finally took off again after the weather cleared at 11.50 am. Meanwhile, the schedule was affected after Indigo Airlines and Spicejet flights to Thoothukudi and Colombo were delayed by nearly two hours. Several other flights to Delhi, Mumbai, Cochin, Kozhikode, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Madurai, Coimbatore and Bengaluru were also delayed due to this.
