Pens filled with gold rods seized at airport
Customs officers seized gold worth Rs 6 lakh from a passenger at Chennai airport on Sunday night.

While they were checking the passengers who arrived from Kuala Lumpur around 11.30 pm, the officers intercepted Ashmath Khan (30) from Chennai. When his baggage was checked, they found 12 new pens that he had brought from Malaysia. On suspicion, the officers opened the pens and found that six of them contained gold rods instead of the ink refill. The gold, weighing 185 grams worth Rs 6 lakh, was seized.
Meanwhile, a Bangladeshi national was arrested on Monday for trying to fly to Colombo using a fake Indian passport.
The accused, Mitra (37), was detained for interrogation on suspicion by the immigration authorities when he was about to board a Colombo-bound flight, sources said. Inquiries revealed Mitra had arrived from the neighbouring country by road without valid papers and tried to take the plane to Colombo using the fake passport. After interrogation, the foreigner was handed over to the police for further action, officials added.
