According to a Corporation official, the election department of civic body had sent communications to all the 60 colleges located within city limits. “Nearly 100 students from 25 colleges participated in the training session held in Amma Maligai on Friday.
They were trained in the process of preparing the electoral roll preparation process and were advised to be neutral without political inclination during canvassing,” the official added.
The students, who would be called as campus ambassadors, would conduct campaigns at their respective colleges and encourage their friends to participate in the election process. “They will also take part in SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) campaigns during elections,” the official said.
Apart from enrolling college students, the civic body has also appointed faculty members of these colleges as nodal officers to help and oversee the functioning of campus ambassadors. Corporation had already utilised the help of college students in the election process to create awareness on election process.
