Robbers attack techie with knives on city beach, rob wife of jewels
A software engineer, who was playing hide and seek with his newly-wed at Tiruvanmiyur beach, was attacked with knives by two unidentified men, who escaped the spot after robbing the woman of 12 sovereigns, including her mangalsutra. The man, who fell unconscious in the attack, is undergoing treatment in a critical condition at a city hospital.

Police said Kathiresan, a software engineer, and Anitha of Zameen Pallavaram, got married a month ago. The couple was playing hide and seek at the beach near the Hare Rama Hare Krishna temple on Saturday. As Kathiresan was blindfolded, two men intercepted him and attacked him with machetes on his head.
After Kathiresan fell unconscious, the men threatened Anitha at knifepoint and robbed her jewellery, including the mangalsutra, and escaped. She could not get any help as the area was deserted, said the sources in city police.
While the duo fled the spot, Anitha rushed Kathiresan to Malar Hospital where he is said to be in a critical condition. On information, the Tiruvanmiyur police recorded Anitha’s statement and registered a case, and a hunt has been launched for the duo.
Trio held for robberies
Police on Friday arrested three persons who were involved in robberies in Anna Nagar, and recovered 12.5 sovereigns, 10 mobile phones and a stolen two-wheeler from them.
The accused persons were identified as R Santhoshkumar (20) of Vadapalani, M Edwin (19) of Mangadu and R Parthiban (24) of Vadapalani. They were nabbed by a special team after several complaints of robberies were reported in Anna Nagar, Arumbakkam and Tirumangalam.
Similarly, the Valasaravakkam police seized as many as 45 stolen mobile phones and handed them over to the owners. The mobile phones were traced using IMEI numbers with the help of service providers, police said. The CCTV footages retrieved from places where the trio snatched valuables showed that the bike they were using was stolen from the Rajamangalam police station limit.
The retrieved phones were worth Rs 5 lakh and police have also identified middlemen and shop owners who buy stolen mobile phones in city. They will soon be arrested, said Valasaravakkam Assistant Commissioner B Sampath.
