The arrested were identified as Bhavani (52) the mother of Thiyagu, a criminal now in prison, and the temple trustee Nallama Narayanan (65).

The deceased was identified as Raghunathan, who was staying in the place belonging to Yathothakari Perumal Koil in Kancheepuram. Raghunathan was also running a scrap shop at the same place. Police said he could not pay the rent for the house and the shop for nearly a year as his business was down completely.

The temple trustee Nallama Narayanan was asking to pay the rent regularly. A week ago, when Raghunathan was not home, Nallama Narayanan locked the house and shop. When Raghunathan arrived, he was shocked and soon somehow arranged the money and went to Nallama Narayanan’s house to pay the rent. But Narayanan refused to receive the money and asked him to vacate immediately.

Following this, Raghunathan filed a complaint to the Kancheepuram SP Santosh Hadimani. The SP informed the Vishnu Kanchi police to take suitable action. Meanwhile, the temple trustee allegedly sought help from Bhavani.

Police said Thiyagu contacted Raghunathan over the phone and threaten to kill him if he failed to vacate the premises. Raghunathan informed the incident to the police, and on Monday Vishnu Kanchi police called Raghunathan and Nallama Narayanan and held peace talks. But Nallama Narayanan was not ready to allow Raghunathan to stay in the house.

Dejected over this, Raghunathan collapsed while walking out of the police station. He was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead due to possible heart attack.  Later, police registered a case and arrested Bhavani and Nallama Narayanan.
