According to the police, Rajiv of Swami Pillai Street in Choolai was standing outside his house on Sunday when two men on a two-wheeler approached him. They told him that they lost their mobile phones and asked Rajiv for his mobile phone to make a call.
While talking, the duo took away the mobile phone from Rajiv’s shirt pocket and attempted to flee. But Rajiv held on to the bike and shouted for help. Rajiv’s brother Binay Kumar and his friend Babloo came out hearing Rajiv’s cries and tried to retrieve the phone from the duo. But the duo reportedly got down from the bike and attacked Binay Kumar and Babloo.
However, three of them managed to secure the bike-borne duo and handed them over to the Periamet police. During the interrogation, the snatchers were identified as Thamizhvanan (27) and Chiranjeevi (21) of Choolai. When inquired about the ‘Press’ sticker on their bike, Chiranjeevi told the police that he used to work for an unregistered local magazine but did not remove it after shifting to another job. “He used the sticker to get away with petty offences,” said police. Both the men were remanded in judicial custody. Binay Kumar and Babloo were treated at a private hospital, said police.
