SRM flags off yatra as part of Eat Right India movement

The Eat Right India movement was launched by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. “Swasth Bharat Yatra”, a pan-India Cyclothon, is a key element of the Eat Right India movement.

Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of leveraging 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, various activities under the Eat Right India movement were organised.

The yatra was flagged off on October 16, 2018 (World Food Day) on six tracks from six different locations and covered almost all States and Union Territories. It will be culminated at New Delhi on January 27, 2019. The yatra will comprise of a team of 150 volunteer-cyclists and the convoy would include an ‘Eat Right Mobile Unit’ and a Mobile Food Testing Unit. The Convoy would stop-over in cities and towns and have transit halts. Activities will be held in more than 2,000 locations spread over 100 days.

SRM Institute of Hotel Management, the main sponsor, hosted a one-day event to welcome the participants of the walkathon from Guduvanchery. The participants were holding placards that insisted on importance of eating safe, healthy and fortified foods.

Students of SRM Institute of Hotel Management, Loyola College, CSI Ewart College along with the directors of FSSAI, ICDS workers, children from different schools and nursing colleges, members from Self Help Group and other public bodies attended this convention. Kancheepuram Collector Ponniah were among the chief guests along with N Sethuraman, Registrar of SRM Institute of Science and Technology and D Antony Ashok Kumar, Director, Hotel Management, SRM IST.
