Plastic bags banned inside Raj Bhavan
After the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to ban the use of plastic items, including non-biodegradable carry bags, from January 2019, the Raj Bhavan decided to go plastic-free from Friday.

A Raj Bhavan communique said that plastic items will not be allowed beyond its entry. Accordingly, visitors and Raj Bhavan employees will not be allowed inside the premises with plastic bags. In a bid to make Raj Bhavan plastic-free and to create an awareness among the staff and public, Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit also unveiled a perennial photo gallery exhibition.
He also released a sticker with the slogan ‘Let’s avoid plastics and prevent Cancer’. The Governor also distributed cloth bags and the stickers to every family members on the Raj Bhavan premises. The state ban is brought under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.
