Creative Art Therapy studio to come up at ICH soon

The air-conditioned studio will be a space just below the palliative care and cancer wards where children undergoing chemotherapy and treatment for other terminal illnesses will be able to keep themselves occupied through art and dance. 

“Children will be involved in creative arts where they will be taught dance and choreography to distract them from the pain. Besides, we wish to help them open up and talk to doctors and others through this technique,” said Dr A T Arasar, director of the Institute. 

Stating that this will help children easily express their pain, he said, “The clowns are made intermediaries to help the children open up. The clown therapy is held for children on a weekly basis by volunteers from Little Theatre, a not for profit children’s theatre group – which is also helping the hospital set up the Creative Art studio.

 “We are providing a room where the required facilities can be set up. Mirrors will be set up where the children can see themselves as they dance. Besides, the studio will have a lot of colours. It will also help those coming to the Autism ward at the hospital,” said Dr Arasar. He said that creative art therapy will help autistic children become more attentive.
