Student loses control of car, hits woman, 8-year-old girl

A 22-year-old woman and an eight-year-old suffered grievous injuries after a car driven by a third-year student ran amok and rammed them at ICF on Tuesday.

The victims, Vijayalakshmi and her relative girl Susi, were walking on the roadside at ICF on Tuesday evening when a car hit them from behind.

In the impact, they were thrown off to a distance. Shocked passers-by rushed them to hospital with grievous injuries. While Vijayalakshmi has been admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Susi has been admitted to SIMS Hospital in Vadapalani. Soon after the incident, a large crowd gathered at the spot and thrashed the youth who drove the car. On information, the Tirumangalam traffic investigation police went to the spot and secured the accused. 

After the interrogation, police identified him as P Sarangopal of Ayanavaram, third-year college student at a private university. He has also been admitted to the SIMS Hospital to treat his injuries.

The car which were damaged by the public has been retrieved by the police and a case has been registered. Police said Sarangopal was not under the influence of alcohol.
