Police said the man, K Rafi Khan of Palaniyappan Street in Seven Wells, was working at a wholesale mobile phone shop in the same neighbourhood.

As the shop distributes mobile phones to various other shops, Rafi went on Thursday to collect the cash for the phones that have been sold. While returning from the shop around 11.30 pm, four men in two motorcycles followed Rafi Khan and pushed him off his two-wheeler near Anaikar Konar Street and Perianna Street junction. “The group assaulted and stabbed him and then escaped from the spot with the cash bag, which contained Rs 60 lakh in cash,” said a police officer.

Hearing his cries, passers-by came to his assistance and took him to a private hospital. The robbers, however, had fled from the scene by then. Rafi was admitted to a private hospital.

The police collected the CCTV footages from the nearby buildings and are on the hunt for the robbers. Based on the complaint by the shop owner Jaffar, the Seven Wells police registered a case. Police believe that a group that knew theroutine of the victim could have planned and executed the robbery.
