The arrested was identified as Glen T, a Nigerian staying in Chennai. NCB official pegged the price of the contraband at Rs 20 lakh.

Based on an information, the NCB team seized the drug from the parcel, which was booked as containing a machine part at Medavakkam on Wednesday. Thereafter, police traced the 38 year-Nigerian national on Thursday.

The parcel was sent to Doha, Qatar on September 5. However, it was not delivered at the said address and was returned to Chennai. The accused reportedly sourced the contraband from another Nigerian living in Delhi, NCB Zonal Director Bruno A said.

It is not clear why the parcel was not received in Doha. Sources noted that the accused did not have his passport with him. He claimed that he came to India with a valid passport, but he misplaced it. He is stationed in Chennai for more than 4 years.

He was earlier working as a facilitator for patients arriving in the hospitals in Chennai from his native country. Later he became a part of the drug smuggling network after making some contact with a narcotics cartel. NCB added that further investigations are on to find his other contacts in the drug trade.
