New rules to regulate Deepavali traffic
As the traffic was dense on Tiruchi-Chennai National Highway during the pooja holidays, the Chengalpattu police implemented new rules to control traffic on National Highways during Deepavali holidays.

The police have asked roadside food vendors and other shops on the highway to shut down business before 11 pm. If any of them failed to close the shop before 11 pm, the shop will be sealed immediately, warned officials.
Also, a separate lane has been arranged at the Paranur toll plaza for private buses to avoid traffic congestion. The police have also asked private buses to not halt for more than a minute at the stops and they must only be stopped on the service road. The new regualtions will be in effect from November 2 to 7.
