Woman, son poison dog, kill themselves over business losses

A 60-year-old woman and her son committed suicide in Korattur after poisoning their dog on Saturday allegedly due to losses in the business. They had collected money from 274 people for a chit fund scheme.

Amala John (60) and her son Joshua John (29) of Vanchi Nagar in Korattur were running a chit fund scheme and the latter lost the money in share market, said police.  

Their neighbour Sophia noticed that the lights at Amala’s house remained on till late at night. When she checked through the window, she found the duo hanging from the ceiling and alerted the police.

In a suicide note, Joshua wrote that the dog was poisoned as they felt no one else would take care of it. Amala’s husband John separated from the family two years ago. The bodies were sent to KCMH for an autopsy.

Class 9 boy commits suicide

A Class 9 boy committed suicide in Kannagi Nagar. Police said D Kamalesh allegedly beat another boy while playing Kabbadi. As his friends scared him that the other boy’s parents would approach police, he panicked and hanged self in the house. The Kannagi Nagar police have registered a case and further inquiry is on. 

Woman kills self over differences with parents

A 25-year-old newly married woman committed suicide by hanging in her house in Maduravoyal allegedly dejected over her parents’ refusal to accept her marriage. Gayathri married her colleague, Gnana Prakash, last year despite opposition from her parents and the couple was residing at a rented house at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar. Prakash had gone to Pune on an assignment when the incident took place. The Maduravoyal police recovered her body and sent it to for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and forwarded to Revenue Divisional Officer for an inquiry.
