Duo flees police station after locking up cop, nabbed

Two men, who escaped from the Periamet police station after locking up a sub-inspector in a room, were chased and caught within minutes.

The incident happened on Sunday morning when sub-inspector Rajendran was on duty.


Two youngsters from Bihar — S Avatheshrai (31) and J Muntrakumar (18) — who were secured from Chennai Central for robbing passengers during the Deepavali rush by diverting their attention the previous night, had been detained in the station for inquiry. Around 8 am on Sunday, when Rajendran went into a room in the police station to check some paperwork, the duo who was sitting on the verandah, managed to lock him in the room and flee the station.


Special sub-inspector D Krishnamoorthy and driver G Krishnaraj, who noticed the accused persons escaping, chased them. Grade-I constable P Vedanayagi, who was on duty, also chased the duo in an autorickshaw and nabbed them with the help of two other police personnel at the EVR Salai junction.
