Chennai generates 64 tonnes of cracker waste

Despite the Supreme Court restriction Chennai managed to generate about 64 tonnes of cracker waste, said sources from the Greater Chennai Corporation. Last year, about 80 tonnes of garbage were collected from the city during Deepavali.

This year, more than 19,000 sanitation workers were deployed to clear the accumulated garbage in the city, which comprises 15 Zones. A release from the Corporation said that 9.04 tonnes of garbage will be taken to the common hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facility in Gummidipoondi for incineration. The garbage was collected from Monday to Wednesday and 45 vehicles were deployed to clear the garbage.
