The experimental fare revision, which comes to effect from Monday (November 12), will be applicable to all feeder share auto and taxi services till January 31, 2019. The rate cut has been announced to encourage passengers to avail feeder services, a communication from CMRL said.
The fare reduction could be a real crowd puller given that a person taking a feeder share auto from Guindy Metro station to Velachery MRTS via Vijayanagar Junction or Little Mount Metro to Nandanam/Kottupuram or Guindy Metro to DLT IT Park would only be paying Rs 5 per trip. Even prior to the fare reduction, the feeder service has been pulling a decent number of people. A total of 47,628 people utilised the feeder services in two months since its inauguration in August last.
Last month, a little over 28,000 people had benefitted from the share auto and taxi services. Of the total patronage of 28,032 recorded in October, nearly 21,600 had utilised feeder share auto services alone. Operated during the service hours of the metro, which opens at 6 am and closes at 10 pm, feeder services would be open to all. A CMRL spokesperson said the feeder service would be open to all and any person could walk into the metro station (unpaid area) and buy a token to use the feeder share auto and taxi services operated at a frequency of 15 minutes.
