The deceased R Karunamurthy (32), a resident of Raghava Naidu Kuppam near RK Pet, was the son of Raman, former panchayat president. Raman complained to the police that his son, who left the house last Saturday, did not return.

The RK Pet police investigated the matter and detained a suspect Haribabu (35), who also went missing since last Sunday.

“After interrogating Haribabu, we arrested five henchmen from Tiruttani and they confessed to that they murdered a man and buried his body on the banks of the Kosathalai River at KV Kuppam near Nagari in Andhra Pradesh. On Saturday, Andhra Pradesh police personnel and Revenue officials from Nagari accompanied by the Tamil Nadu police unearthed the body. Raman and few other relatives confirmed the body was Karunamurthy’s,” said a police officer. The five men were identified as Loganathan, Parthasarathy, Vimal, Baskaran and Harish.

Police said that Karunamurthy lent money to Haribabu and was killed when he demanded the money back.
