Police said that around 70 women and men gathered in front of the building allotted for the TASMAC shop and raised slogans urging the authorities to shift the venue.

Thiruvallur police stated that the local residents of that area claimed that there was a school. “Children usually return home late in the evening some times and if the TASMAC is opened they may face trouble,” said a resident.

The Kavarpet police rushed to the spot along with Village administrative officer and convinced the public. Following the protest, the TASMAC shop was not opened on Monday but deferred to a later date. However, the protesting public also gave a complaint to the Village Adminstrative Officer demanding that the outlet should be permanently shifted to another venue. The official in turn said that the issue would be discussed with higher officials and appropriate action would be taken. Similar protests have erupted in and around Tiruvallur district in the recent past.
