At 8.20 am while the Tambaram-Beach EMU departed from the first platform of the Tambaram railway station, the railway gauge man noticed a crack on the rail track.

He soon informed the Tambaram railway control room and the EMU was halted and the railway staff began to repair the rail track.

Meanwhile, the passengers requested the Tambaram railway officials to operate the trains on another track since it was a peak hour in the morning and first day of the week. Heeding to their request, the officials decided to operate the trains on the express tracks.

Later at 9.15 am the track was repaired temporarily and the train services were resumed from 9.20 am.

The track will be permanently repaired in the midnight, the officials said.
