The deceased was identified as Hidayathullah, who owned a grocery shop in Sriramapuram village near Dindigul. On Wednesday morning, he came to the city along with his family. They reached Mogappair by an MTC bus to attend the funeral at his relative’s house and were walking by the Ambattur Estate Road when the incident happened.

According to police, a car that was trying to take a right turn at the traffic signal hit another car that was proceeding towards Ambattur. In the impact, Santhosh (29), who was driving the second vehicle, lost control and rammed Hidayathullah. The car then hit a pile of bricks on the roadside before coming to a halt.

Shocked passers-by rushed Hidayathullah and Santhosh (29) to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. However, the doctors declared Hidayathullah dead on arrival. Santhosh is said to be in a critical condition with severe injuries on his leg. The Tirumangalam traffic investigation police have registered a case and further inquiry is on.

Incidentally, Hidayathullah had come to Chennai to attend the funeral of two relatives, who too had died in a road accident. Police said his relatives, Meeran Moideen and Yasmin, were killed after the car they were travelling on rammed the median on the GST Road near Madurantakam on Tuesday.
