The 1.5 km long East Tambaram and Irumbuliyur Suthanantha Bhararthi link road was re-laid only four months ago as soon as the municipality finished the drainage pipe-laying works. The road was repaired at a cost of Rs 24 lakh, according to municipality officials. However, in just four months, the condition of the road has deteriorated and is filled with pot holes, giving a very hard time to motorists in the area using the stretch.

With the ongoing rainy season, more patches of the road have become unusable, making it hazardous for two-wheeler drivers, especially during night hours. After complaining several times to the municipal officials, the local residents decided to level the road on their own as there was no action taken on their complaints.

SS Mani, a resident of Irumbuliyur said, “This road can be used as an alternative route by the police and ambulance services whenever there is an accident or heavy traffic on GST road. Now this road is in bad shape and officials are taking no action”.

When contacted, A Ravichandran, municipal engineer, Tambaram said, “Only recently I received information regarding this, soon I will conduct an inquiry with the former engineers on why the roads have come apart so soon and will take necessary action”.
